New BACK-ON single “wimp ft. Lil’ Fang (from FAKY)” – Gundam Build Fighters second opening theme (OP) due out on March 12th 2014

Happy New Year for 2014! :) We are pleased to be bringing you the latest news from our favourite band for the 8th consecutive year!

BACK-ON recently announced that a new OP for the anime Gundam Build Fighters would be out in mid January 2014.

It’s been a while since the band has collaborated with another artist and the new song, wimp ft. Lil’ Fang (from FAKY) features Tokyo-born Lil’ Fang, a vocalist from the all-female bilingual J-pop group FAKY that has been described by Jacques@Arcadey as “The J-pop Group That Looks Like a K-pop Group That Sounds Like a Euro-pop Group“.

BACK-ON then released a 30-second preview clip of the song, which you can watch and listen to here:

Interview with Back-on in purple SKY magazine!

Before we start, I do have to make an apology to Leisl Schrader of purple SKY Magazine for the delay in writing up this post! Now, aside from being one of the few interviews with Back-on in English, the article has extra special importance (if my memory serves me correctly) as it is probably the first English interview with Back-on that has ever gone to print on paper!

The interview took place sometime in September 2007 and is featured in the latest edition (Fall 2007) of purple SKY, published at the start of December 2007. I was kindly sent a preview of the interview article by the magazine, which you can see below:

purple SKY magazine - Back-on Interview preview

Unfortunately I don’t have the full article at hand at the moment, so I can’t comment further on the content alas. However, it does look very promising (and of the above mentioned ‘historical’ significance) so if are you interested in reading the full interview, purple SKY is available from shops in the US such as several branches of Barnes & Noble, Borders and other independent stores (see full list) It is also available online at $6 (exc. PP) directly from the purple SKY website, which I think is particularly useful for international fans!

Other bands/artists that are featured in this issue of purple SKY (a specialist J-Rock magazine that is released quarterly) include The Captains, Plastic Tree, and Anna Tsuchiya to name just a few. And if you’re running into pick up a copy, I’ve included the front cover of the Fall 2007 edition below for your reference:

Please let us know what you think if you do purchase the magazine! It is definitely a huge milestone that marks a step into the mainstream for Back-on, especially in America!

About this entry

Back-on media @ AnimeUSA 2007 – a quick glance

It’s been a while since Back-on hit Anime USA 2007 but who said time is an issue when writing news posts? Today’s feature are media of Back-on from Anime USA that various con-goers have put together or uploaded online.

We’ll start with a pretty professional video that was done by PBC Productions promoting Anime USA, and I have to admit I’m tempted to join the event next year. ;) Back-on feature in the clip for a mere 30 seconds (from 3:07) but Chad Williams and his team have helpfully provided translations when Kenji03 talks about his thoughts about how amazing it is to have people (who probably don’t know Japanese) singing along with Back-on‘s lyrics!

The video is available on PBC Productions‘ own website (recommended – see December 7th 2007 entry), or you can follow the ‘More’ link at the bottom to watch the same video on Revver.

Another video that we found (on Youtube) was uploaded by anantech featuring Back-on at their autograph-signing session. As many have already pointed out, the look on Teeda and Kenji03‘s faces when they saw the Wii is priceless :) As with the video above, you can visit Youtube or scroll down to watch it!

Last but not least, photos! The best resource at the moment is actually Anime USA’s official gallery where there are currently 50+ photos of Back-on at their concert performance! One of my most favourite has to be a photo featuring Kenji03:

Some other photos can be found on Back-on’s official blog such as this group photo:

There are probably alot more photos and videos elsewhere that we haven’t found just yet so please keep checking back. If you do see something that you think we should post about, please let us know! :)
