BACK-ON’s “with you feat.Me” climbs the Oricon Singles charts to #5!

With thanks to Sesshy for this awesome screenshot which shows BACK-ON‘s “with you feat.Me (Tales of)” version ranking at #number 5 in the daily Oricon Singles chart after debuting at #14!

BACK-ON - #5 Oricon Singles chart!

It is yet another significant achievement for BACK-ON, as their previous Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology tie-in single flyaway also reached the top #10. We’re hoping with you feat.Me can go all the way to the top 3!

In other news, unfortunately BACK-ON didn’t quite clinch the top spot for the Best of January poll run by our lovely affiliate Love[asia]Music with TELL ME (there were a ‘questionable’ number of Dir En Grey fans loitering around the polling station if you ask me off-record :p)  but with the release of with you feat.Me, the band will again feature in the Best of February votes: we will be promoting this as well and hope more BACK-ON fans will set up camp vote every day for them when the polls re-open!

p/s: Watch out for our forthcoming news post about the launch of BACK-ON’s Official Youtube Channel!

BACK-ON – Re:Start | Lyrics and English Translation

Our most recent post in Lyrics featuring the English translation for flyaway by Quartet4 has been very very popular with visitors (400+ have visited the page to date!) and anyone who has heard the single will no doubt agree it is one of BACK-ON‘s best!

The single includes a very strong ‘B-side’ track in the form of Re:Start, the third song in both editions of the CD, which sadly does not feature in the Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2 game, but is – in my humble opinion – an amazing song.

As we mentioned before, finding an accurate translation is always an issue, but thankfully Quartet4 allows requests on his dedicated Forum, and has now posted the full translation online! The song is about starting over but not forgetting the memories shared with the other person. Gorgeous, as expected from Kenji03 and Teeda!

Quartet4 has kindly provided permission for us to repost the translation here, and – as we test out a new display format – you can find it below the cut with the original kanji, romaji and karaoke versions of the lyrics as well!

If you haven’t heard the song yet, visit our Music page and scroll to the end for our pop-out radio and listen to it. In the mean, I’d like to say a big thanks to Quartet4 for the translation!

Teeda and Kenji03 interviewed by Jennifer Ho on Alchemy’s Asian Pop Show on SBS Australia!

BACK-ON have been featured on several local radio (and TV!) programmes recently, but availability aside, there is always the difficulty of fully understanding any questions or answers. However, back in December 2008 (18th to be exact) Teeda and Kenji03 were interviewed by Jennifer Ho on Alchemy’s Asian Pop Show over the telephone, with the translation provided by their Japanese interpreter Mika Nakamori.

What makes this particular interview rather different from others before is that firstly, there are two versions. One version is Japanese-only, where you hear Jennifer Ho ask Teeda (and Kenji03) the question in English – in an Aussie accent (as expected) – which is followed by their reply in Japanese.

The other version is almost exactly the same, except that now Teeda and Kenji03‘s replies have an unobtrusive English voice-over, which enables us to understand what they are saying!

Without spoiling the interview for you (although we have provided a full transcript below the cut) there is a really funny moment where Kenji03 launches into an answer and then forgets the question (best heard in the Japanese version) and it seems that Teeda really likes koalas? It is also interesting what he says about how the band came to work with GReeeeN:

GReeeeN and BACK-ON have the same producer known by the name of JIN. Sometimes he brings GReeeeN’s new tracks for us to have a listen to or take our tracks to GReeeeN, vice versa, which has made us realise we had the same message to tell, even though we come from different backgrounds.

What we want to express with our music is no different, and we thought we could make
something really cool together – mixing rock and Jpop – that’s how we ended up together.

Teeda then talks about what BACK-ON brings to Ashiato, their first single with GReeeeN as BAReeeeeeeeeeN:

GReeeeN’s music is more of a pop music, with a kinda popular straightforward sound, whereas BACK-ON has been playing in the underground rock scenes in Japan and occasionally overseas.

We’ve brought that kind of BACK-ON taste into the collaboration: we’ve turned it more ‘rockish’ by adding some features like rough raps or distortion to the sound.

Of course there is more, and you can listen to the interview for yourself by visiting the link below:

Listen to the interview on Alchemy’s Asian Pop Show

I would really highly recommend it, although here is some breaking news about their plans for 2009: BACK-ON‘s first full album YES!!! is going to be released in Europe! Apart from doing more live gigs, they would also like to do a tour in the US and possibly Europe and Australia.

Hope you will enjoy listening to it as much as we did :) A big thanks must go to Jennifer Ho and Mika Nakamori for their fantastic work! As mentioned above, if you are unable to access the audio, you can read the full text transcript of the interview below:

Listen to flyaway[Tales of]Remix on Youtube!

With thanks to soulsteelgray on the Jpopmusic forums for the news, you can now listen to flyaway[Tales of]Remix on Youtube courtesy of moyu27!

To provide some background: flyaway[Tales of]Remix is an extended remix of the title track from the single flyaway, and features the seiyuu of one of the main characters in the game, Kanonno Earhart, who is voiced by Ito Kanae (伊藤かな恵) and the bgm (background music) from the battle scenes of the Tales of the World:Radiant Mythology 2 game, although – with thanks to Sok for the info – it does include music from an earlier game in the series.

You can either click on the link below to enjoy the song in full (all 5:40 minutes of it!) or watch it after the cut/read more… link on BOO:

Either way, hope you enjoy the song as much as I/we do – it’s very upbeat and definitely a fantastic addition to the Limited Edition version of the flyaway single! :) You can also listen to the rest of the new single on our Music page; yes, we are talking about:

  • flyaway
  • where is the future?

Translation: flyaway – Lyrics (English Translation) by Quartet4

It’s rare that we ever have full English translations of BACK-ON‘s songs, so it was so very exciting to find that Sowon, our awesome BOO Forums admin, had posted a translation of flyaway by Quartet4 on the Forums! You can see the original English translation here on Quartet4‘s own website, but they have very kindly given us permission to post the translation here as well!

If you haven’t had a chance to listen to the song yet (remember it’s the OP for Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2) have a look at some of the options available in our earlier post, where you can watch the PV, download the mp3 or even enjoy a subbed version with karaoke effects!

You can either view the English-only translation below or a line-by-line translation with the original Kanji. Either way, this translation has really helped me to appreciate the song a lot more, and I am sure it will be the same for you as well. Thank you to Quartet4 for their great work!

About this entry

Watch BACK-ON’s “flyaway” PV in full online!

This is the video that we have all been waiting for since news of the flyaway PV was first announced by Sesshy at Sound EX, and we’ve been able to share it here with everyone thanks to Sok who found the video of the PV on Veoh!

The PV, which was uploaded by raykennedy, is 3:56 minutes in length and features BACK-ON performing on a sunny beach and in a dark industrial warehouse with various background images of urban buildings panning in and out. Very interesting camera work imho and it is definitely a must watch for the song AND the video! The director is none other than 須永秀明 (Hideaki Sunaga) who also directed BACK-ON‘s Sands of time PV!

You can watch the PV by clicking on the direct link below or after the cut (as usual):

http://www.veoh.com/videos/v17144930HrJcS5sk

and if you would prefer to watch it in HQ on Youtube courtesy of funkeejap (original by Sok) please visit:

Now you can even watch the subbed version of the PV (with karaoke effect) with thanks to BenBoomZ right here (in HQ as well):

Watch the 30 second preview of “flyaway” on Youtube!

Following on from our previous post about the new single flyaway, we discovered (via Yuki on the BOO Forums) that BACK-ON had changed the video on the front page of their official website to feature a 30-second preview of the title track “flyaway“!

Back-on.com - flyaway
Brand new BACK-ON.com – flyaway version

It appears to be a TV ‘spot’ ad that is currently playing to people across Japan (we hope!) to promote the new single, but the video was quite small, although we were all very excited to hear a clip of the chorus. However, in the meantime, it turns out that AbyssalChronicles has actually uploaded this clip for everyone to watch on Youtube!

Click on the link below to ‘watch it in high quality’ directly on Youtube!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRHvCLCaOzs

Alternatively you can still watch the ‘normal’ version at the end of this post. For the sake of better graphics in particular, I would really recommend watching it on Youtube directly!

And on a quick side note, JUICE magazine did a quick preview for the new BACK-ON single, and the author seems to say that the theme of this single was:

Friendship & Courage (友情や勇気)

Hope you all enjoy watching the preview! :) Like some others, I am very excited by how good the songs sounds from the clip, and aside from the surprise that the lyrics for the single might already be available online, I can’t wait till we hear the song in full!

BACK-ON’s new single “flyaway” CD covers and Tracklisting confirmed!

This major news update comes courtesy of Sesshy who recently became head admin of Sound-Ex and arrives with plenty of images, including brand new group and individual photos on BACK-ON’s official website as well as the tracklistings and new CD covers for both editions of the CD!

The images we have all been waiting since the news hint of the new single, flyaway, were the CD covers for both the standard or normal flyaway single cover (shown first) AND the limited edition ‘Tales‘ version:

As the news update from Sound Ex put it:

Even though it’s not “Back-On’s style, I REALLY love the covers.

I would have to agree wholeheartedly with the latter statement, especially as I also love the covers too (why are the images so tantalisingly small!?) and I am sure you feel the same too (especially fans of the PSP series: Tales of the World – if you weren’t already aware of the news, BACK-ON is writing the OP and ED theme music for the brand new game Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2) although if I were to really ‘look’ for any similarities to BACK-ON‘s previous CD cover designs, I would say that the cursive writing reminds me of Chain, one of BACK-ON‘s earliest singles, which features that nice italic-cursive-style as well.

Anyway, before I digress further, let us move on to the tracklisting. The question we were all (at least several of us?) dying to know was whether the limited/Tales edition of the CD would include anything extra – Chain, for instance, did not – but as the official BACK-ON website confirmed (screenshot), there is an additional track called: flyaway 『テイルズ オブ』Remix or flyaway (Tales of) Remix!

So the official tracklisting is as follows (with the Remix version only available with the limited/Tales edition):

Back-on working on theme music for new PSP game “Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2″!

Hisashiburi! :D I hope everyone is enjoying their summer! Back-on have certainly been actively blogging about their various activities this month, but it turns out they’re now also working on the main theme music for the upcoming PSP (Playstation Portable) game by Namco Bandai called “Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2“!

Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2

The news was posted on the band’s official site earlier in the week, and the information was further confirmed by an article on GPara.com (scroll to almost the end of the article) which mentioned Back-0n (and posted the band’s group photo as well!) and seemed to say that Light and Wind would be the key themes for the song. I don’t think this will be a difficult task for the band at all, because a lot of their music *does* follow this philosophy!

You can watch the promotional trailer for the game on the official website, and although I don’t own a PSP, there already seems to be quite a bit of hype from the major PSP-gaming sites such as: PSP Fanboy and PSPHyper, where the latter also includes extra screenshots in a later post.

Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2 Screenshot

However, for a more introductory approach to the new continuation of the Tales of the World series, the best place to visit is probably the Wikipedia entry. No official release date has been announced yet, but the plan is for Winter 2008. Of course, this is great news for us Back-on fans – it means we have something good to look forward to! :)
