Air Gear OST II – Who Wants More Groovy Trick!!?? – Chain (Short) Instrumental Remix Extravaganza

The Air Gear opening theme – Chain is one of the songs that introduced *lots* of people (including yours truly) to the wonderful band that we all know as Back-on, and since reading the interview by JaME, I’ve become intrigued by the idea of remixes, since Back-on have said that they would like to:

rearrange Chain in DUB

where DUB is apparently a form of Jamaican music with reggae origins. To bring this into context, Back-on‘s name was given by Jesse of the Japanese metal, reggae and rap band RIZE. :)

So how does this all relate to the Air Gear OST II?

I have to confess that I haven’t actually seen the anime Air Gear beyond Episode 1, because I became a bit too obsessed intrigued by Back-on to continue watching it, but listening to the second OST (original sound track) is really helping to change my mind!

The first OST (original sound track) “What a Groovy Trick!” was hailed as a great album, but for fans of the show, it appears to have lacked the instrumental versions of Chain used throughout the anime.

The producers haven’t made the same mistake twice, and the second OST “Who wants More Groovy Trick!!??” features 8 (short but) different instrumental remix versions of Chain by Skankfunk! And in all honesty, I love them all!

First ever English interview with Back-on by JaME

I was so excited about this interview (which was posted just yesterday – May 9th 2007) that I decided to put my lab report aside (amongst other things that Sowon is so patient with) and tell everyone about it! :)

JaME Interview - Screenshot Thumb

In what I believe to be Back-on‘s first English interview article entitled USA turns it BACK-ON, Cynthia of JaME (JMusicEuropa) asks the band a selection of interesting and investigative questions that really do open my eyes to how the band thinks, as well as reveal some intriguing facts about the band, such as the tidbit that their favourite performance song is Chain. Some of my favourite Q&As are included below:

About this entry

Upcoming content…

Its been a while since the last update (ok… its been a few minutes if you count the Hikari Sasuhou (FK Metal ver.) [Murder Princess OVA OP version] lyrics) as I’ve been away on holiday (I had a lovely time in case you were wondering ;) but I had no access to the internet) but to give you an idea (again) of what you can look forward to on Back-on Online:

  • More lyrics – practice makes perfect and the more I type out lyrics from the album sleeves the faster I can finish it. They do take up time though and with exams on the horizon I can’t promise many, but I will try my best.
  • More media – this is one of the most popular areas of the site and Back-on Online will continue to provide as much content and variety as possible.
  • More Interesting content – as one of the handful of English sites dedicated to Back-on (here I insert unashamed plugs about Sound EX, JaME and J!-ENT as well as Back-on’s Myspace – where backontokyo has mysteriously disappeared but thankfully we still have backonjapan) it’s important to ensure visitors don’t become bored and continue to maintain their interest in the band! I’m still researching the specifics but would welcome any feedback or even any guest articles such as reviews and others from visitors as well, so please feel to free to contact us if you’re interested!

Sowon's Avatar Ichi's Avatar

On that note, I’d like to thank Sowon again for doing such a great job as forum super-mod on the Dedicated Back-on Forums. A special mention must go to Ichiban (or Ichi :p) for being so active as well! She currently holds the title of being top poster! :)
